Enough with the Story Mode quests

Two days ago I had a quest "Defeat the Boss in Story mode". Fine, I did that, and in doing so, completed Story mode for the week.

Today I have a quest "Win 4 fights in the Story Mode", and another which reads "Cast 2 spells while playing the Story Mode". No doubt there will be more this week.

The Story Mode is fine, the revamp is visually appealing, but the games and opponents aren't exciting or challenging, and the rewards are small for the effort. This means players wont want to revisit Story Mode if at all possible. Even the XP available is tiny, at just 2XP per unmastered card.

Since we no longer get a free Reroll I have a choice of playing four dull matches with a 5 crystal reward from the quest, paying 5 crystals to reroll the quest, or not playing the quest and potentially not getting to 22 quests for the week.

Please limit quests to ONE Story mode quest per week. OR (and I might prefer this) give us 20XP per unmastered card, the way you did with Revolving Planeswalk, to incentivise players going back into those games.

How else will they beat the "25% of players completed the old story mode" metric?

Seriously @Magic:PQ Support Team these quests were fine when there were so many different levels of story mode to choose from... with just the same 7 fights all week, it highlights how stale the new content actually is.

Honestly if all y'all care about is the amount of time people spend playing Story Mode, then there's a certain % of us playing the game who'd spend a hell of a lot of time mastering cards there if this was the case!

And today I have the quest “Cast 3 cards while playing the story mode”. Sigh.

Agree that the quest objectives are mostly unnecessary/counterproductive. I got the "Beat the Miniboss" in the first set of the week (Wednesday), which makes any subsequent Story Quest objectives pointless backtracking. So quest timing could be better than just a random draw.

I also realize most of this (thus far) is not for veterans but newer players. The quest objectives are always pretty trivial to complete that I don't clock this as much more of a nuisance, especially with only 20 required to get the weekly reward. If I want to skip I can do without a couple hundred XP a week and it doesn't affect my game experience whatsoever.

I agree with a point in the other thread that part of what's missing is being able to revisit archived versions, even if you don't get the bonus completion rewards after the boss battle. Right now all this event is is a low-level PvE that refreshes weekly. If this were dropped in the Events section instead of the Story section no one would have batted an eye. Folks were clamoring for new Story mode content, but I would have to think that simply adding PvE-style matches using the same structure as the old Story mode would have likewise grown stale for veteran players, while also being daunting/overwhelming for new players. Ironically, if they keep up this Story refresh cadence (and don't just recycle old iterations), it would be more new content on a match-count basis than doing the Chapter structure once per new set release: 7-8 new matches weekly vs 30 for the whole Battle for Zendikar release.

It's nice that they fixed the Story Mode quests but it'd also have been nice if they hadn't done exactly the same thing again with the Halloween event quests 🎃
