New MMR?

So I'm wondering if this is the new normal going forward? Seed teams for miles and miles make for great cover farming but have already changed how I play PvP. Love the change for Lightning rounds but don't care for it in regular PvP events since it kind of makes shield hopping irrelevant.

Why spend HP on shields until the last day if we can just endlessly farm on seals and walruses until the last day of an event and then still get decent progression? With scores in the bigger slices (1 & 4) contracting a little outside of the top 5 and high point targets being harder to queue up I'm strongly considering just going to a smaller slice and seal clubbing to 150 wins.

    I don't think anything that's changed in the past few weeks has been intentional.

    Tbh, for my play style of getting rewards through wins, I like it. But I can see how some may not like it.

    It would help if they would acknowledge this at all. A quick, hey were looking into what's wrong, or we're testing out new MMR.

    This is specific to the lighting rounds. What I've been experiencing is teams with name recognition(usual suspects I always see) with an appropriate point value. Once I hit around 250-300 total points, then I get the seed teams. They last for another 20-25 matches. Then it's a combination of seeds, seals, and the usual names with point values of 4 or 5. Wild.

    Actually, the sea of seeds is present in PVP other than lightning round as well. Just need to join at the start of the time slice.

    Do you open the event immediately or are you waiting? What I see is a little different. For Lightning rounds I open event immediately and get seeds from 0 to around 400 points. Sometimes a little past 400 points (last one I think I got up to 432). Then can see both seals and folks in my MMR but not folks above my MMR (multiple 550 3a5s).

    I have one of the essential 3s ascended t 5 stars in both villain and hero rounds (Magneto for villains and IM40 for heros). In the previous MMR I would get 8-10 seeds which would get me to around 229-245 in points and then I could climb on other teams in my range. Now it is nothing but hammering teams that can't hit me back which must suck for them and doesn't exactly move things along super quick for me. I don't mind the extra covers, got 40 in the last lightning round alone but knowing if this is permanent or just the latest bug would be nice.

    Yeah in the regular rounds I see seeds up to about 400 in score and then if I keep climbing its a mix of seals, walruses and teams in my MMR. If I tank back under 400 I can often start seeing seeds again.

    @revskip Yea I join right away, few minutes past start the latest. And I also have the same 3a5's as you, IM40 is a bit higher cuz I did him first. Something has to be funky since we have similar rosters yet different order of what teams appear when.

    And like you before everything got funky, join right away seed teams to 245 points maybe one more worth 15 to get to 260 and the 2nd standard. Then the varying degrees of samjuggs from baby champ to both 550.

    I set a personal best of 909 points in one of the LRs today, good for t8 lol. I very much enjoyed all the covers raining down on me. EDIT- not sure where the rest of this paragraph went but I got to 909 by going 4-5 points at a time, annoying af but covers absolutely made up for it. A 20-25 point value would appear every 15ish matches and I'd take the points if I could beat the team. The strangest part of the whole thing was I didn't get touched once until I hit 909. Played another match after hitting my pb and got hit during that match. Went from 3rd to 6th after I got hit, dropping from my personal best to the 870s. Shielded immediately after I got hit bc only a few minutes remained. Not sure where I finished exactly but it was still a t8 - END EDIT.

    I can't imagine whatever the issue is with the covers is gonna be permanent, especially at the rate of a cover per win. The "new" mmr, idk but some sorta comms would be welcome.

    Don't get them started on all the goofy different food metaphors they have for cupcakes (I think one is a "grilled meat" and one may be a cabbage of some sort)

    The way I distinguish between the two is that a walrus that gets an absolutely wild cascade could conceivably take me down but would need extra luck or whales to retaliate whereas a seal is so outclassed that they would never get enough turns to hit me with whales. And a walrus could potentially beat a grill team if you use them to grill. At 550 MMR a 550 Shang-Chi with a 4* America Chavez with no god boost on either would be a walrus. 4* America Chavez with another 4* would be a seal.

    I don't believe any of this is intentional. Why change MMR and not adjust what that means for Season totals and rewards? And since when do they ever do things like this without tying in to a new season? In fact why even attempt anything like this with everything going on? I suspect they will let this run until season ends in a few days time and then we might get an explanation or acknowledgement. The fact that it is screwed up with banned Supports showing up also just shows the whole thing is broken.

    If this is permanent then they are going to have to re-assess the whole thing - you guys honestly think it will be 18CP for clubbing seals and seeds to 50 wins? No all of a sudden it will be like 200 wins to get that far and no cupcakes to help. They always talk about balance in the game economy- nearly every time we got something nice, something was also taken from us reward wise (HP was stripped out for one thing).

    I also think that MMR seems to have been reversed. Normally you can join and in quite a few cases you get 3 seed teams then real players show up. I just joined both Doom's PvP and Class of 2017 and was given 3 real players which if skipped go straight to the seed teams. It is like the algorithm has been typed in with the numbers swapped round or something.

    The cynic in me thinks perhaps this was done to create fake engagement numbers since they are losing players like rats fleeing a sinking ship but the most likely explanation is probably just the good old Hanlon's Razor. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

    I don't even remember what level my ascended Juggernaut was when this issue hit. But he's almost maxed out now. Only 6 levels to go.

    Sucks now I can play my steam on tablet the thing is ending. It be nice if they kept it this way but if they did they be belly up by end of year. I mean 100 plus free covers per pvp yeap been doing around 80 to 100 matches just for free covers. Once it's fix. Back down to 7 to 12 wind max.

    Only hope I have is to try to get my aunt may to 550. It's 524 now and hitting for around 100k

    They nerf her in screwed lol

    I say keep pvp like this or maybe

    First 15 games. Seed teams
    10 games mid range
    26+ normal that why everyone could at least get 25 wins
