Thanks for reporting this. It's "challenging" but not in a fun way.
The event IS scaling to players' rosters, but it's indexed way too low. Enemy levels are ~half what they should be if the event is meant to be easy-ish. If the enemy levels were increased 50% or so, it'd be tricky but manageable. As it is now, it takes creativity and a LOT of luck to gather / generate enough AP w/o accidentally slaughtering the "opposition".

The game is just trying to emulate what it would be like to actually suddenly get super-strength and have to fight normal humans and not accidentally kill then.
A well-known superhero trope.

... and the inverse of the classic MPQ original trope, common street thugs gunning down cosmic beings with plain old bullets. Later joined by the sight of ninjas bludgeoning godlike beings to death with their bare hands!
Long ago, an excellent parody of this was posted to this very forum. Might still be around here, somewhere.....

It's doable, you just need the right team. I cleared Puzzle It Over - Round 3 on my first try

This is one of the times its handy if you haven't ascended everyone.
I finished it easily with 4 star and below characters. Never lost once due to killing them.

Can’t do the last two nodes with required characters as they are all ascended and match damage wipes out the enemies. It’s just pointless and impossible to complete.

And, it just so happens, that ALL copies of the required / essential chars for this event are 5★.
The scaling appears to be setting these enemies at the median point of your overall roster. So my main acct sees them at lvl 270 or so. My alt sees them at lvl 70.
The scaling also fails to incorporate the point that 5★ chars are not only much farther along on the exponential match dmg curve, they also have a multiplier applied to it, so their match dmg is ~2-3x what even that exponential curve dictates.
So, regardless of what one does, a heavily 5★ roster effectively has a much shorter clock limiting their chances to collect however much of whatever color AP.

Combining this with other issues ... dev team wasn't kidding. They don't understand the game. They need to tap into the institutional knowledge and collective experience of those who do.

I managed to do the two required characters nodes on the right with 4 star cyclops and 3 star hawk guy hawkeye

Given the state of... everything...right now, I'd assume this particular issue is a mistake unless they say it's intentional. I don't think they've talked about screwing around with scaling recently.

I just did the two final nodes which being tug of war are fine. I was trying to grind out a quest (repeater tiles) on the earlier nodes and just did what I could until I killed the enemy. Not bothered about completing the actual nodes.

The puzzle quest was adjusted while running. Before the current version with AP gathering and Symbiotic Goo rewards, it was a version with tug-of-war tiles and Omnipotence City rewards (and missing one of the point rewards).
So some did the two final nodes with tug-of-war and got an Omnipotence City token, people who started later do the final two with AP gathering and get a Symbiotic Goo token.0 -
