Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley) 5*

I am pretty impressed how far you guys have gone to try and find a rescue for Hobby, it is fantastic stuff. Sadly I am not so sure Hobby deserves all this effort but that is what he gets for being a cheap hood with a knock off kit. I do wonder who we might have got if the Devs were still doing 5/3 releases - maybe Demon Hobby from Inferno?

Remember that Hobgoblin has his passive dmg avoidance repeater, which would certainly help with the “survive one turn” thing. Put leapfrog on Hawkeye maybe.
I am hoping/guessing Demogoblin will be a costume.

He could have been interesting 3 years ago.
He has no place in the game as it stands today.I think he should start the game airborne and use his black on 3 random tiles when he returns from airborne.
I'll be honest that I'm not super excited about him, but my resource flow means I can basically get most of the new toons to 500+ at this point if I want, although I might need to stop pulling for some of them. Anyway, maybe it'll be fun to use him for infinite sometimes.
I agree there should be some passive bomb component. It could be 2 random tiles every 2 turns or something.
Also anyone new who is CD or Repeater based should punish Thor and others for destroying their tiles imo, especially if they're supposed to be bombs. I don't really care what the penalty is, but something. Even just AP stealing would be nice.

Hobgoblin does strange things to us all. Need to process these new emotions…

The fact that this new guy creates/enables a turn 1 infinite combo that beats literally anything, and he's BAD -- I think that's as big an indictment of the current metagame as I've seen.
And I agree that he's bad, too! A turn 1 infinite combo that beats any enemies of any level is BAD. Let that sink in.

Has anyone heard if they are going to make Taskmaster able to be made a favorite, now that he's primary feeder for a 5*? Having a limited as a feeder sucks

Devil Dinosaur feeds Venom Dino and it didn't change there unfortunately, so wouldn't get your hopes up.

I love the idea and know Coulson is amazing, but that team will get seriously injured (if they win at all) against meta, or Kang, SWitch, Immortals, Agatha3/BRB etc.?In this scenario you would also need to start with 5 red and 6 blue.
Seriously asking, definitely not trying to put down:
What kind of damage would that do to a max health Juggs or Baku? It should be close to a fixed number (barring cascades) since the countdowns are the same every match.Theoretically it'd kill anything, but there are faster ways to do it. You do need to stay alive for one turn.
Start with 5 red or blue somehow (probably requires boosts)
Turn 0 cast Hawkeye red or blue, get 5 Coulson CDs
Turn 1 Coulson CDs resolve, Hawkeye generates 12 Blue and 8 red.Expedite until everyone is dead. Every time you expedite you get 5 more Coulson CDs, which the next Expedite resolves 4 of, giving you 15 Blue and 10 red from Hawkeye.
It's actually super busted! That power shouldn't be blue (it should be yellow), but I guess nobody cares.
I don't get turn 0. It sounds like on turn 1 you're casting a power and getting coulson's CD, and then next turn, turn 2, they resolve?

Turn 0 is what you can do before the opponent gets any turn at all.

Never liked the term turn 0. It's turn 1. MY turn 1 and opponents turn 1.

Turn 0 is what you can do before the opponent gets any turn at all.
Turn 0 is what you do/can do before you make a match (ie start of battle/turn powers, any powers you can fire from starting AP etc) . Once you make a match, that's your turn 1.

Yeah sorry, "turn 0" is what happens before you move the board the first time. I suppose you could call that turn 1 and still be correct!

thank goodness for playing 20 missions with Gobby that helps

However, I think separating turn 0 from turn 1 is a worthwhile distinction. If a tactic succeeds on turn 0, then the play cannot be affected by bad boards or AI shenanigans on its turn 1.

I think so too! But some of the terminology we use for stuff isn't super clear or obvious, so if somebody asks I feel like I should explain it.

IDK if it reflect Hobgoblin being decent but I took him with 3 covers into some PVP and PVE rounds to win the 20 matches (and use his powers) before his PVP. Maybe his partners picked up the slack but he contributed some.
I had some fun with him, choosing your tile and bomb placement is decently good. I didn't even use Coulson as mine isn't quite ascended. Getting a bunch of stuns out is nice.
I am a pretty big fan of the character in a lot of ways since I was getting seriously into comics around the time he was being used a lot in Spidey books. So maybe that makes a difference.
Anyway, I like him ok. I think I like using him more than last year's character we chose (Shaw).

There are always two discussions to have when you're evaluating a character, and we have to be really clear about which version of it we're having.
Conversation #1 is about a character's place in the current metagame, and their performance with and against the top characters. Are they fast enough? Are they particularly weak against the best characters? Do they synergize with one or more of them? For some of us these questions are the only ones that matter, and for some of us they might matter a little or not at all.
Conversation #2 is about whether the character is fun to use, can combo/synergize with lesser-used characters, and is good in a neutral metagame.
Increasingly, the conversation #1 answers are pretty dire! The top guys are so, so strong that someone has to do something insane to get there. But that doesn't mean the character has no redeeming qualities at all, or is totally useless.

I just finished his quests and I actually had fun using him. His powers were fun and effective though he was only at 7 covers, his repeaters hit pretty hard. I think he'll be fun to use when boosted and I enjoyed using him more than I usually do when doing these new character quests.
