MtG:PQ Q&A Session - December 2023

Hey, everyone!

2023’s last Q&A session is out! Hope you enjoy it and leave your comments about Questions 2 and 3. ;)

  1. About Support removal mechanics: there is a problem about trying to destroy the correct support you need to destroy when there are a lot of them in play and sometimes turns removals useless. For example playing vs PWs like Ajani, Invigorate Leadership who generate lot of supports in play, sometimes removal destroy those supports (I remember there was a time where non token supports were prioritized, I don't know how it exactly works now) and even when you don’t play vs a massive support making pw, you can spend some turns trying to destroy one support and random god are not on your side and finally you lost the game just for this. I think it would be a better way to treat with supports, maybe adding some options to choose when a spell or ability is going to destroy a support like 1-most costly one 2-most shields one, or something like that.
Answer: Thank you for sharing your suggestion. The number of support tokens has indeed increased in recent sets. The game design team constantly shifts their focus to introduce new experiences and updates to older interaction styles. The aspect you mentioned has received increased attention recently, but the focus on interactions with these supports too may see a change, in the future.

  2. When will we be getting more filters for cards? I think the community has been asking for legacy/standard filters, is this on your “to-do” list or not and if so, how long can we expect until it’s rolled out?

  3. What do you hope the game looks like 3 months from now? What improvements and changes do you have the goal of accomplishing by then?
Answer: These answers took a bit of time because we wanted to bring you a concrete answer - and we want to be able to stick to our promises! For the 6.5.1 release we are working on the following improvements:
  • In-game language selection. So you can pick your preferred supported game language regardless of your system language.
  • New Filters for Card Finder. We’ll start with a filter for Standard sets and we also want to bring many other filters and options, but we can confirm this one for now. ;)
  • Private Coalitions will be able to invite members while remaining private. This way Coalitions will have a better control over who gets to join them. We want to bring some quality of life improvements for Coalitions so stay tuned. ;)
  • Eliminating duplicate cards within the same booster. We know opening the same card twice in one booster is a bummer, so we want to avoid it.
  • Revamping Full Mana x Stored Mana interaction. In their current forms, if a card has a Stored Mana mechanic and we give it Full Mana, it will receive not just enough to cast it but also to fill its ‘storage’. Sure, it’s not very intuitive. Most importantly, it limits the design space and forces us to make cards way less cool than we’d like them to be (sorry, Rocco!). We want to fix that so we can have more freedom to bring you new interactions with these mechanics without - ya know - compromising the health of the whole metagame.
  1. Would it be possible to add the option to export/import decks like other card games have? With so many expansions, having to save screenshots to have specific decks for events with different objectives becomes tedious if you have to look at the screenshot and then change each card, especially in a mobile game.
Answer: Yes, we’d love to have this tool and it is in our backlog. This feature is actually more complicated than it looks so we don’t have a release date for this yet. For the time being, we are focusing our efforts on other features, but we are aware of this one.

  2. The secondary objectives of nearly all current standard events are based on 'game play restrictions/objectives' (cast x things, dont win before x turns, flip X times, etc) as opposed to 'deck construction restrictions/objectives' (deck must contain x, can't contain x, etc) . Is this something that you're conscious of? Is this something you'd consider taking into account in the future?
Answer: When we create events, we try to bring some identity to each one and make sure they fit their theme. So we think of an event within itself and not with the goal of balancing objectives among all of them. This way, deck construction or any other kind of restrictions will come up when they make sense with the event’s flavor, lore and intended strategic challenge.

  3. Would it be possible to get a list of (retired) events vs events that are currently being played. Now we do have a full list on wiki. And it may help some players, especially if we can add an edit to Wikipedia.
Answer: We now have an updated list of current events available! Here are the Coalition events and here is the rotation for individual events. We’ll keep this list updated as new events are released and some others are fixed or revamped. :) Also, some surprise events may appear from time to time.
As for the ones not listed, they may be out of rotation for a number of reasons and we are not providing a list so as not to create wrong expectations.
