It's a bit hard to summarize concisely (go read Edward said's "Orientalism" for a full treatment), but the quick and dirty expansion is that Japan is treated as an inherently exotic location full of ancient teachings and knowledge, but essentially static. And Logan (or here Daken) is there to delve its secrets and lay them bare to the (dynamic and vital) West. It's a genre of western storytelling that goes back at least as far as Marco polo and has many pernicious side effects (intentional or not). I think it is a fascinating topic, but I'd suggest that the danger in applying Said's view to Marvel Japan is that Claremont and Cockrum and Miller and Byrne's X-Men world is one where every other nation - and its single super-powered representative character - is a stereotype. I mean, look at Banshee, smoking pipes and reciting limericks and drinking stout and being called "Banshee," for heaven's sake.I agree with you more than this note may suggest, but while it's true that the Tourist Japan of cherry blossoms, temples, samurai and ninjas doesn't really exist outside of pop culture and stereotype, it made perfect sense for that to be the Japan where Logan spent decades training, because it's the same era of comics that gave us Storm and Thunderbird and Black Forest gypsy orphan Nightcrawler and random-Russian-word Colossus, whose mighty steel exterior masks a frightened and timid heart, and so on. It's all stereotype, none more pernicious than any other.

I hope I’m wrong/being too hard on him, because he seems like the kind of character I’d like. For those hoarding until the next great 5, they can probably skip him.
DAZ0273 said: I keep looking at that picture of him (first one) and am sort of struggling to understand exactly how he uses the claws at the same time as the sword if he needs two hands to fight with the sword? I guess I am talking about a time travelling Mutant with a magic sword, so making sense is the least of the issues here.
So the Muramasa Blade doesn't want people to use it to kill anybody, especially people with healing factors? In fact it actually punishes people who use it for its intended purpose! However Daken then completely ignores its mystical advice to stop using it and that makes him a hero! None ofthat makes any sense whatsoever. I think I might have worked out what is going on here - Daken is completely stoned on that Heat drug isn't he? "Woo look at me, I'm a Samurai, honest!" - time to book in another session with Moonstone, Daken.

PiMacleod said:HOWEVER... you tellin' me that DAKEN got his hands on THAT sword?! I mean, he's not exactly a treasure hunter, a tactician, a strategist, a... whatever! He's a glorified thug with daddy and drug issues! How in the tinykitty did HE get HIS HANDS on such a powerful artifact?! I mean, wouldn't Dr Strange have tabs on that? Or, I dunno -- someone in that family's line that owned that sword?
Vhailorx said: What do his purple repeater tiles actually do? Am I missing something in the power description? Do they proc the stated damage for his black passive? If he reduces ih's permanent health to zero what happens?

The Punisher (2020) 5* Rarity
Frank Castle became The Punisher when his family were senselessly murdered. He vowed to hunt down criminals and clean up the streets. But then 2020 arrived and Frank was put in Lockdown. Now Frank is going stir crazy, has binged on donuts and is getting pretty fed up with those Friends re-runs.
Lockdown Red (Passive) 0AP
New York City might be locked down but not The Punis…oh wait, no sorry, vigilantes are not allowed out either even if they do wear a mask. Sorry Frank but it is working at home for you. How can you stop the bad guys from home? How am I supposed to know? I guess send them an angry tweet or make a Tik Tok video? Times are hard for all of us, Frank. Create 5 level 389 strike tiles representing Frank’s burning rage.
Well stocked up! Green 6AP
In the last days of his freedom, Frank realised that there was a better way to punish scum – by taking their toilet paper! Now Frank has rolls and rolls and the bad guys are in trouble! Creates a 3 turn countdown tile that when it resolves leaves any villains on the board in a mess causing 29,786 damage.
Passive: If the bad guys have managed to buy some loo roll, Frank steals it giving himself a boost of 6 green AP. Ha ha, I wouldn’t eat too much chili bad guys!
Wash your hands and wear a mask! Black 8AP
Frank is well trained in personal hygiene – he won’t be part of the problem even if he can’t shoot the blasted virus down, he can wash his hands! Heals Frank for 21,734 and places three Level 568 shields on the board. Frank is going to kill you anyway bad guys but at least he is considerate!
