Lifelink doesn't work outside of combat damage? [Investigating]

After testing with leafkin avenger and brash taunter their triggered abilities do not gain life from lifelink. Lifelinks in game text reads "your planeswalker gains life equal to the damage dealt" which should mean any damage the creature is the source for will gain you life but none of the non-combat damage a creature does gains life.

I know that the source of their trigger is the creature doing damage as it shows the damage from the creature in the battle log. You also cannot gain life from creatures involved with the fight mechanic despite it showing the creatures doing the damage.

Is this intended for it only to be combat damage, or is it bugged? A clarification of the in game text would be helpful.

+1 to this, and to answer your question:
By the reading of the card in mtgpq, the lifelink ability in mtgpq, as well as the context of lifelink by regular mtg rules: I can confirm with certainty that it is a glitch.
