What is the purpose of sarcasm on these forums?

As the poll regarding sarcasm was closed due to being a Necro thread without reaching an actual conclusion, in my opinion, I will ask here: What purpose does sarcasm serve, in an argumentive sence, on these forums and how can it best be applied, if at all, in making the forums and the games they are connected to better?

    I guess you can divide sarcasm in 2 on these forums.

    1: Sarcasm done to in some ways provoke others reaction

    2: Sarcasm done to just plainly have fun but many times misunderstood

    The fact that the AI can't sarcasm is exactly why it doesn't need to be nerfed.
    We shouldn't stick up for the new players, even though they might have never used sarcasm before.  Also it's not funny at all to watch the AI try sarcasm and fail, like popping all the balloons at a birthday party.  We really need to consider how the AI feels about that; probably hurts its feelings real bad.

    Nerf sarcasm, cause kicking noobies around is part of a balanced breakfast.

    Look, I played with sarcasm for a while, it was fun at first and I always won but it didn't make me feel right. Since noone will nerf it I'm going to stop using it and try other things, see if I can find a happier life.
