Do you use characters that others don't?

Just wondering, how people's styles of play differ.

Popular characters I don't use;
I have a Lvl 156 3/3/3 Xforce, but never use him, because he is 3/3/3. Same with my Lvl 127 4/0/3 Thor GoT. I have a 105 5/5/3 Hood that I don't really use. I was always short the blue covers, so it was 5/2/5 or 5/3/5 for the longest time, so I'm just not in the habit of using him. I guess the same goes for my 105 3/5/5 Punisher. Because I had other 3*s that came in handy, and my scaling in PVE isn't bad enough for me to need his red, I never use him. I think I will get around to leveling my 85 4/4/4 Cyclops when I get the ISO and another red and black, but just hadn't really used him out of habit. My 105 4/4/3 Black Panther rarely gets any use either, just because I haven't been able to cover him well enough. Same with my 105 5/2/3 CMags, 94 2/3/3 Psylocke and 40 1/1/4 Iron Fist.

I am just now getting used to playing with 3* Daken, because I never had any purple covers for him before. I knew I would use him, and always wanted to, but that lack of purple stopped me. Now he is at 3/4/4, and just waiting for 2 more purples and one more black. I use my IM40 a lot, 105 5/5/2. He is the only character, I'd realistically build a double of, just to have him at 1 yellow cover. I don't use him for his red or blue, but he is a perfect partner for my LCap and Falcon. I use my 40 3/3/5 Loki sparingly, but waiting on those 2 blacks, to help me get the most use out of him.

4*/3* Characters I use on a regular basis
Nick Fury, Blade, LCap, Luke Cage, R&G, She-Hulk, Hulk, Thor, Patch, Deadpool, Doom, Mystique, GSBW, Falcon, IM40

4*/3* I rarely, if ever, use
Devil Dino, IW, Elektra, Star-Lord, Cap Marvel, Torch, Sentry, Storm, Gamora, Spidey, Punisher, Psylocke, Daredevil, Doc Ock, Ragnarok, Beast, Colossus

will when covered better
Xforce, Thor GoT, BP, CMags, SG, Loki, Iron Fist

should use more
Hood, Cyclops

At times, I try to. I use almost my entire roster in PvEs. In PvP you find out very, very quickly when you put in a sub-tier team.

If I know I have lots of time in PvP, then before my final climb, I'll pull out teams like Falcon/Psylocke, GSBW/Mystique, Patch/Steve Rogers, etc. Sure, you can win some matches, but let a team like Falcon/Psylocke sit out over night, and you'll lose a couple hundred points.

I am currently working on Iron Fist, so I can put up IF/Psy/Falcon in simulator, as team annoyance. You know you'll beat them, but they will annoy you the whole match, and if you make a mistake, you could be staring at a lot of attack tiles quickly.
  • I like to use lots of people.

Instead of a detailed description just going to leave my list of 166's here to give you an idea.

LCap, Psylocke, Hulk, Cap Marvel, Patch, Daredevil, X-force(5/4/1), Human torch, black panther, magneto, and sentry.

I regularly use several supports but they are underleveled, Hood 105, IM40 @ 75(5/5/1, intentionally at 1 yellow), Loki @ 65 (5/5/2, need more green!)

Missing covers from several who I want to add to the list, Cyclops, Cage, Blade, just finished covering daken so he is getting iso, and Lthor is at 4/5/4 which isn't perfect but he is on the list to bring up to level too.

I'm transitioning to 3 star, and from the luck of the draws, Punisher wound up as my second highest character, and a fairly good color combo for my 3 star Magneto.

While I recognize why he isn't the best in PvP, I've found he is actually very nice in the daily. Molotovs take too long to be good vs a single team, but keep a few on the board, and the can be pretty devastating by round 4.

A recent example: in Daken's event, up to 900 pts. I used Blade as a third wheel - whoops, edit! I previously wrote "leg"... that means something else! - for Daken-Patch.

Guess what, that combo granted me some significant defensive victory as well, maybe because people underestimated the synergy between those characters.

Then I decided to go back to the safe route, and for the rest of the climb it was either Thor or Hood.

But I have to admit, it was fun to gamble with an underdog char (in the sea of Loki, Hood, and Thor, with the occasional Fury and not much else).

And Blade, to be honest, accelerated the matches quite a lot!

In general, I love putting MQ in my team every now and then, just because I love how she plays (I dig her animations too!)... her abilities are really fun to fire off. For obvious reasons, that can be done only in the early stages of a climb. For a very long time, I used Cap with my X-Force, even if I had better options, just because I had (and have) fun throwing his shield. I don't know if he qualifies as an "unusual" choice (judging from the recurrent line-ups in the high scoring area, I would say so). I'd love to use R&G a bit more (I haven't invested the ISO yet, because Cyke and IF are among the obvious priorities).

I think it would be fun to have, every now and then, some sort of "troll-oriented" event, where the use of Squirrel Girl, Bag-Man, Dino, etc. is heavily promoted!
  • I frequently use Doc Ock against goons and in survival nodes. His black power is fantastic against enemies that drop a lot of special tiles, and his green comes in handy occasionally. My standard Survival node team is Lazy Daken, Blade, Falcon, but Doc Ock can sub in for Blade without really losing much, and it gives me a green outlet.

I'll use She-Hulk to fill out colors. Her Red's great; her other powers not so much.

I"ll frequently use Devil Dinosaur to fill in for Team true heal (Patch/Lazy Daken/Rocket and Groot) when one of them is in the node.

Daredevil is one of my most-frequently used PVE characters. He complements X-Force perfectly, and once you get the hang of using his red, it's one of the best powers in the game. His blue is also fantastic and very easy to use. He's extremely underrated right now.

And I'll use a lot of the B/C list - Gamora, Psylocke, Ragnarok, etc. - when I need warm bodies for PVE nodes, especially when I'm grinding at the end.

I normally rotate my team on PvE unless I'm short on time then I use my strongest roster. Depending which character are needed/buffed on PVP, I try not to use those in other events to avoid using health packs.

I seem to be the only high scoring pvper running a Laken/xf/deadpool team in FA event right now. Does that qualify? icon_lol.gif

In PvP there's the problem that perception equals reality. That is, even if I think Squirrel Girl is underrated (in that she's solidly mid-tier, not trash-tier as so many believe), if I run a Squirrel Girl team, I'm going to get hit a lot, because people think she's weak and will want to attack.

In PvE I use lots of different characters. I really actually do like Squirrel Girl. She makes a rainbow with Hood and CMags, and the three of them generate random AP like nobody's business!

I'd say so. Kudos to you! I remember seeing you in my nodes (or someone else who had made a very similar choice), and I was actually surprised by that line-up.

For the last node in DPDQ, my team every day is icon_daken.pngicon_punisher.pngicon_falcon.png . I'm still not sure why. I have every character. I just like all of icon_punisher.png 's moves. Getting boosted attack.pngstrike.pngprotect.png all over the place is a lot of fun to me. I would use icon_psylocke.png but icon_punisher.pngstrike.png work better with icon_daken.png

If you have an underleveled Hood give him a shout out with SuperSteve and Scott. Yeah, it doesnt cover many colors (red/blue/yellow/black) but once you get that shield train going.....dang. Ive had 8 shields out at a time (5 red, 3 blue) with about 7 enemyprotect.png out. Not only do they never get turns, but if they did....they do 1 damage.
  • My version of that is Steve/Hood/IM40(5/5/1) reds for days...
  • I have an unhealthy love for GSBW. I'm not foolish enough to bring her to PVP once I'm over 400 points, but I enjoy her powerset (sans redflag.png ) more than any one else. It feels more like a "Puzzle" when I get to choose where to put the green tiles instead of a random spray. Her Sniper Rifle also has some level of strategy as I search for the optimal place to make chains, protect my special tiles, and destroy the enemy special tiles. I still break out the old Spidey-GSBW-Hulk team from time to time in the SHIELD Simulator. Match purple for shields until the enemy looks to launch a power. Move Hulk in front to make him Angry. Connect the green dots with Deceptive Tactics and launch a fully operational Sniper Rifle to destroy the enemy.

She's still on my DDQ team to clear the final 4-stage node with LCap and Hood. Complete Rainbow and their colors don't overlap (for usable powers - purpleflag.pnggreenflag.png for GSBW, blueflag.pngredflag.png for Cap, yellowflag.pngblackflag.png for Hood) and by the time I'm finished with a group of goons I usually have enough AP to wipe the floor with the character team. Rinse repeat. I frequently (>20%) take 0 damage for the whole node. No countdown damage, no match damage, no anything.

My fav combo now is Squirrel Girl / Daredevil / Cyclops. Use them in final survival node in DPD. Not the best combo for sure, but by god when Mutant Revolution combos into 4 (my personal record) Ambush trap matches, that's helluva satisfying.

I use a lot of GSBW/Spidey/(required) in PVP, and sub in Hulk for PVE when I can, works super well.

I clear seed teams with Ldaken(used by many) and Gamora L120 (not used by many)

The two low cost attacks help me get rid of seed teams really fast, faster than with more powerful characters that need longer to do one huge overkill attack
  • My back up PvE team is L.Cap and IM40 (not favored by many). Boost yellow into red into shield-a-rangs.
