Squirrel Girl required? That's just evil, D3!

I think the OP is salty that D3 didn't provide enough information on who was going to be the featured in that spot. Offering a cover as a progression reward is not enough. I think that they for long events like this, they should allow you to look at previews of each node to see the progression, but lock it down so that we can't attempt them until we complete the previous one. Similar to how they lock down each sub in the event before we finish all nodes in the previous one.

How is it evil when they make it even possible of getting that required character within the event as a progression reward? I think in this case having rags/daken as requirered characters is way more evil than SG, since you can't get those in the event (ok, you could get daken from the torch pvp if you needed him)

It's only evil because it's Squirrel Girl and she sucks. That was the joke. That's why I compared her to Bagman.

I only added the text later about having required character when no one seemed to get it and I had the bright idea of being able to borrow a level 60 character for the required nodes.

Actually, she's a decently middle-of-the-road three-star character. At least, in my opinion. She's not top tier, but she's certainly not down near the bottom either.
It makes me wonder how many people are adverse to her not because of her in-game abilities but because of the character herself.

I'm F2P, have 61 roster slots including SG with a decent number of covers, AND finished the Gauntlet (because I collect DP points every day just for this one PVE and none of the SG essentials had DP, so it was Whales Away My Friend! three times in a row).
F2P, and 61 roster slots?! Impressive. How many days did that take? Now that I've gone F2P myself, you give me hope.
I'm on day 415-ish. In a good alliance (same one for almost a year), play at least some every day (this is the critical part that so many people don't get), and focus on maximum rewards for minimal effort.
  • I couldn't finish level 2 with all the points, because I don't have Classic Daken in my roster.
So I can't get the last progression reward of level 2, wich is most ironically a 3* Daken Cover.

    That was very mean also...

I have frequently wished I had more Squirrel Girl covers.
Mostly because Yellow-Purple-Green is a unique color combo so far and that could come in handy for filling out a team. Also, it's Squirrel Girl, so that's a plus for me.
It looks like the next character will have the same Yellow-Purple-Green niche covered though, which is unfortunate for Doreen.

indeed. and FWIW, Bagnarok isn't exactly top tier either and he's required in quite a few nodes in this gauntlet....
  • I had a hard time with those nodes because my SG is only level 91 (and that was after some very hefty investment on the day of my gauntlet-ing) and all of my opponents were 395. However, SG herself is not a totally useless character--her yellow, if used into a board where you aren't leaving your opponent any really awesome matches, can save you tons and tons of heartache from super-buffed enemy match damage. And her purple...well, if you're using X-Force and Steve Rogers, it sure is an ability that's purple...

I like playing with her a lot more than I like looking at her. She's pretty fun to use, really. I think the animosity really does mostly stem from her terrible animation. As anecdotal evidence to that effect, I am already more inclined to like her because her March cover is so much less dumb looking than her standard one.

Squirrel Girl doesn't really bother me at all. Her Purple can be devastating in certain circumstances. I just had her deal ~2.5 k with it because CMags used Coercive Field when I had it ready. Also I like her Green as for 11 it usually has an rebate of at least 6 with some extra damage put into it. So while not a board shake, it can be useful to get "extra" moves in a sense on your turn.

While she's not on the top tier, Squirrel Girl holds her own in many fights. I have 10 covers and leveled her up to 106. She played well on those essentials.
  • At least she's effective against Patch and Doom if you have the purple covers. It could have been a lot worse

    I matched the O tiles.

The emoticon is obviously a TU.
  • I wish that I had more covers for her, I think that she's got fun abilities. Her green's a bit slow, her purple's damage is conditional, and her yellow has that pesky 'ends your turn' that makes it have hidden AP cost, but overall I think it's a fun combo. Her green (at 5 covers) has the real potential to return as more AP than it uses (but as rainbow) in addition to fair damage and her purple can be very effective for damage against the right enemies.

The thing that needs to be added to the game: abilities to add weak attack/protect tiles to your opponents side, especially green strike and red protect tiles. Have this as a tack-on for some ability (like the strike tile on CMarv) and that would go a long way in adding strategy against IF and LC.
  • Regarding Squirrel Girl's yellow, I have actually been hoping for a character that can effectively take a 'pass', in situations in which you can see that the next turn will be a great move, but the only available match really stinks. I HATE setting up the AI! Granted, very situational ability, but also very, very Squirrel Girl. She can effectively elude any trap.

This is a good point. I remember, in the original Puzzle Quest, I would sometimes do an illegal move (which did 5 damage, I think), thus skipping my turn, if I saw the only possible move would lead to a match-4 for the AI on the next turn.

but this time they gated the Daken Progression behind a Daken essential. That was evil, you choosing not to keep a Progression reward that you earned 5 nodes earlier was short-sighted, not evil.
    This^

I nearly doubled my SG covers this Gauntlet. I got a SG cover from a standard token I got as a reward in gauntlet, then another from the 1547 progression token, then a 3rd from the 2644 progression. So now she is 1/4/2 lvl 40. Still unplayable, but nice to have for essentials and featured events.
