Squirrel Girl required? That's just evil, D3!

I make it all the way up to the end of the gauntlet, only three nodes left, and I finally notice that the required character is Squirrel Girl! Seriously? It might as well be Bagman. I must have thrown a dozen Squirrel Girl covers in the garbage by now. I'm not spending 700HP on a roster slot to hold Squirrel Girl, just in case she comes up as a required character.

Having required characters in a regular PVE is bad enough, it's going to crush your score, but putting them in a gauntlet so people have no possible way of finishing it? That's just evil.

What's the point of giving players a 3-4 day event that most people have no possible way of completing? Why not at least let us borrow a low level character, as is done in PVP, to at least give players a chance to finish? I know for sure that I will be checking the character requirement next time and skipping the event entirely if I don't have them.

  • You throwing away those SG covers was your choice. These are the consequences.

I do wish they would reverse the order of the required essentials tho, giving the last row to the "main" hero with the +90 level buff, since it's full of level 395s. Not that Ragnarok is going to help me much more than Squirrel Girl.

The only reasons to keep those covers is to do essentials or to collect. If you decide that 700 is too much to do essentials then there you have it.

I totally agree. I had a spare slot so I've saved the purple I got as a progression in order to at least attempt the last round of Essentials, but she is pretty much just dead weight (as expected at level 40 with one **** ability.)

I'm of the opinion that Gauntlet should have no Essentials, just a rotating list of buffed characters.

  • We have been doing the Gauntlet for a while now. Featured is 12 Essential nodes, 1st 2 Progressions are 3 Essential nodes each.

Where D3 was evil this time is that SG should have been Essential 10-12 and Daken 16-18. That way you could earn all 3 covers even if you did not have any to start the event. That is how they have done it the last 2 runs, but this time they gated the Daken Progression behind a Daken essential. That was evil, you choosing not to keep a Progression reward that you earned 5 nodes earlier was short-sighted, not evil.
  • I would feel honestly bad for someone who loves MPQ, but works in a country like Malaysia where, I've just learned, electrical engineers are working for the equivalent of under 4$/hour and has to choose between a roster slot for Squirrel Girl and eating dinner. I hope that the exchange rates involved in the systems that run these games include discounted prices -- say, like how college textbooks in the U.S. are ~$100, but like $12 in India (which some travelers take advantage of.

If the choice comes down to a necessity of life and an entertainment expense and someone opts for the entertainment then they have more serious problems to deal with than Squirrel Girl.

Actually, my Malaysian engineering friend can't afford anything but to be F2P, so the Squirrel Girl roster slot wouldn't even be a question, and neither would be finishing the Gauntlet. But it made me wonder given the uproar on the forum in high living standard countries over luxury problems like high roster slot prices, what the experience might be for MPQ players in countries with barely livable wages where roster slot might cost 3, 7 or 10x the cost in real currency (if there is no sort of exchange rate discount, etc).

I'm a researcher in Malaysia, and 600 hero points is RM15.99, which is roughly the price of a McDonalds combo meal. Thankfully despite the stronger USD, the prices on the google store has not changed. Also one can get a filling meal at RM5-10 (USD 1-3) for a plate of rice, one meat, and one veggie. So $4/hour is really not a bad pay.

But really, one shouldn't compare prices of a game to a meal. One's a pleasure, the other a necessity. There are many idiots out there who waste money buying cigarettes, that, due to government taxes, costs RM15 for a box of 12. I'm the idiot buying slots for a game, which may or may not be the healthier decision.

Thanks for the input! I sure hope that buying roster slots is healthier than cigarettes! icon_eek.gif

So, you think that D3 is correct in making events that are literally impossible to complete for a majority of its users? It seems stupid to me. It's just another reason for me to skip an event entirely. The only reason to play the gauntlet for me is to get that final cover and a few HP. It's already a huge health pack sink, isn't that enough? Why not give us a very low level character to use, like in PVP?

Technically they did, they gave you her one cover as a progression reward. You had to open a roster slot for her, but you could've trashed her for another character you wanted later.

I'm F2P, have 61 roster slots including SG with a decent number of covers, AND finished the Gauntlet (because I collect DP points every day just for this one PVE and none of the SG essentials had DP, so it was Whales Away My Friend! three times in a row).

I think Squirrel Girl is alright (I don't see the strong dislike), and other than her ghastly art and animations, she's an okay character. I used Deadpool's Whales power, amped up with Deadpool points. Easy.

How is it evil when they make it even possible of getting that required character within the event as a progression reward? I think in this case having rags/daken as requirered characters is way more evil than SG, since you can't get those in the event (ok, you could get daken from the torch pvp if you needed him)

Yup. I too have thrown away at least 10 of her, but I had a feeling she was required, so I kept that one Gauntlet handed out. Boosted the tinykitty out of I forget which team. I think I'll just hold onto her now. I would have been terribly unhappy if I couldn't get Blade.

I don't really think SG is worth a slot, but it was either 650 HP for a slot or 1250 to buy a cover for Blade.

F2P, and 61 roster slots?! Impressive. How many days did that take? Now that I've gone F2P myself, you give me hope.

I'm at 68 slots now and alltogether I bought one slot early on with real cash (at around slot 15th or so).the only other time I used real cash was to extend my alliance by another slot, so you could say I'm 'almost' f2p icon_e_wink.gif Granted, back then it was easier since there were a lot less characters, so you could extend your roster as they were released and were able to level most of the already existing ones. If you start now it probably is a lot harder since you'll end up with 30 or so 1 cover characters that fill up roster slots without actually being useful.

I have one of each 3star and 4 star characters plus a handful of useful lower dudes but my slot price isn't at 700 yet.
So you probably could free a slot for the squirrel, you just didn't by choice. So if you chose not to have a character that might become essential, why are you mad at d3p?
