Man, that's so true. I came into this game believing that D3 was a charity, non-profit organisation staffed with volunteers putting in the hours from the goodness of their hearts so we could have an always free game, always catered to our smallest whims. Learning the crude reality of the matter was staggeringly disappointing.0 -

Nope, that's not D3, that's my job.

I have some friends who try to strike it rich in the mobile business and they're always doing charity work in their failed ventures!0 -

They actually balance the two well. F2P players that have been here from the beginning had an opportunity to do well without ever investing any money. The problem is that the game has changed, so it's harder to keep the balance when you have a player base with a greater disparity between the top and the bottom. You want to cater to both, but often what helps one, hinders the other. I think MPQ realizes that and the more data they get the more they try to adjust things a little at a time. I think it's clear they do not want to make many "huge" changes, so most of their changes tend to be very small and conservative.0 -

Business' that don't give consumers what they want are not stable long term models, and are very rare/unrealistic. While capitalism has it's flaws, it does have to bend knee to consumers "wants" to be successful.0 -

It's more like if you're on the advantageous side of the Ragnarok/Spiderman/Magneto/Sentry/Daken imbalance you can do very well without investing money but there seems to be less outright imbalances now. X Force is pretty imbalanced but his status as a 4* makes it pretty unlikely for you to ever get his covers without one of the aforementioned favorable situations. I do not believe this game has a very good vision of how to be profitable in the long run. I have considered spending on games that I felt are much worse than this but never MPQ because I've been on the favorable side of the aforementioned imbalances, and while I respect D3 as a company, since I'm not going to delete the covers I got for being ahead of the game there's really no reason for me to give them more money. I mean, I'd honestly consider buying stuff if they give me a Mohawk Magneto costume or a base where I can move everyone around and test stuff out, or more persistent PvE stuff. I know it's easy to say you're going to buy stuff is X shows up but at least I'm considering, whereas right now nothing in the game makes me want to spend money simply because it's not necessary.
At any rate you're not going to get there by making incremental changes. At some point the X Force dominance has to end in a rather sudden manner unless you don't want anyone new to possibly have a chance to compete without spending a few hundred dollars. It's the fact that the changes occur in small and conservative way that bothers me. There has to be a very significant shakeup to how this game is played at some point for it to be viable in the long run. Looking at the revenue estimates there does appear to be a gradual decline and while this isn't the end of the world, it's certainly not going to be saved by releasing yet another 3* that nobody uses, or a 4* that is still nowhere comparable to X Force, or re-run yet another of the same event that everyone has already seen. Sure, if you make big changes you can screw it up too, but the pace they're rolling on stuff, it's just a matter of a slow death just due to the lack of content. I mean, let's say I tell my friends they should play this game because the new survival mode is cool, except we don't know when Enemy of the State is even going to run again, and even if it does get run again it's pretty hard to make an argument like 'there's this event that has this new mode that might be run once every 3 months for 5 days, it's really cool!'0
